Marcela Bowie, D.O.M.
Dr. Marcela Bowie has been involved with natural medicine since she was a young girl when her mother used diet, homeopathy and natural herbal medicine to treat her. Growing up, she would visit a homeopath, naturopath and an acupuncturist when needed. Her first experience with acupuncture and chinese medicine was when she was 15 years old and was diagnosed with bronchitis, sinusitis and a throat infection all at the same time. After only 2 acupuncture treatments and 5 days of herbs and homeopathy she was back to herself and back to health.
Completing her undergraduate degree in 2000 at Griffith University in Brisbane, Australia, Dr. Bowie graduated with a BA in Asian and International Studies majoring in Chinese and Japanese Languages and Political Science. She has also studied in both Japan as an exchange student and in China where she studied Chinese language at Beijing Foreign Studies University. After moving to Florida, Dr. Bowie studied at Florida College of Integrative Medicine and graduated with a BS in Health Studies and a MS in Oriental Medicine. Dr. Bowie has been a licensed Doctor of Oriental Medicine in the State of Florida since January 2009. Dr Bowie has also interned in hospitals in both Shanghai and Kunming, China.
Dr. Bowie has been treating patients in the Melbourne – Brevard, Florida area since 2009. She has worked closely with a neurologist, Dr. Richard Newman. She has gained valuable experience treating difficult neurological conditions as well as a wide variety of other illnesses such as infertility, pain, and arthritis, to name a few. For a full list of conditions treated, please visit the Acupuncture tab. Dr. Bowie greatly enjoys her work and feels honored to be able to help her patients regain health and quality of life.
Dr. Bowie has also been very fortunate to study a system of pulse diagnosis that has traditionally been passed down from teacher to student for many years. She has worked closely with both Dr. Brandt Stickley and Dr. Leon Hammer to learn Contemporary Chinese Pulse Diagnosis. This is a sophisticated diagnostic tool that allows her to assess not only where the patient’s health is in the present moment but also about their past health issues, how they have come to this current state of health and, where they may be headed without intervention. Correct diagnosis is essential to correct treatment.
Since 2012 Dr Bowie has studied Ayurvedic Body Therapy with Chinnamasta Stiles in close mentorship style learning. She has completed 4 levels of training and has begun incorporating this work in her practice.
In 2015, Dr Bowie became certified in Maya Abdominal Therapy by the Arvigo Institute. Please see the Maya Abdominal Therapy section of the website for more information regarding this healing modality.
